This was a one-off project in collaboration with engineer wizard Nick Wilson, to design and build a custom valve amplifier for a musician friend of mine. Nick has a long experience with making some crazy valve based amplifiers and took care of all the electronics, while I designed and built the chassis. The customer wanted a simple user interface but a wide range of sonic possibilites from warm clean sounds to aggressive fuzzy tones.
Specs:
Class A transformers, High gain 12aAX7 preamp tubes, 6L6 power amp tubes generating 30 watts.
On/play switches. Pre gain, bass, treble and master volume controls. High and low sensitivity inputs.
Materials:
Walnut cabinet, lasercut mdf front plate, leather handle (cutoffs from a belt) 2mm aluminium chassis.
Process photos
First assembly and testing:
Nick testing and doublechecking voltage.
Short was the joy when the amp went dead after a few hours, delaying our delivery...
Now listen how it sounds!
